Anal Fistula Laser Treatment Cost in Dubai: What Sets the Price
Anal fistula treatment cost in Dubai is hard to pin down, because a fistula is not one fixed problem. A single, short tract near the surface and a branching tract that runs through the sphincter muscle are very different operations, and they are priced differently. This guide explains what actually moves the price of laser treatment for an anal fistula in Dubai, so that when you receive a quote you can read it properly.
The short answer: typical published prices for anal fistula surgery across Dubai run from roughly AED 10,000 to AED 18,000. At Armada Medical Centre in JLT, laser fistula closure (FiLaC) for a straightforward case starts from AED 8,000. Fees at Swift Day Surgical Center and Trellis Hospital differ and are quoted after examination. Your own figure is confirmed in writing, itemised, once the tract has been assessed.
Why one flat number is misleading
A fistula is an abnormal channel between the inside of the anal canal and the skin. Some are short and direct. Others have several branches, a horseshoe shape, or pass through a large portion of the sphincter muscle. The operation, the time in theatre and the follow-up all depend on which one you have, which is why a clinic that quotes a single price before examining you is quoting a guess.
What actually moves the price of fistula laser treatment
- Simple or complex tract. A single straight tract is the most predictable and usually the least expensive case. Multiple tracts, side branches or a high tract take longer to treat and often need more than one step.
- Imaging. A pelvic MRI is often needed to map a complex fistula before treatment. If you already have a recent, readable scan from another hospital, bring it: it can save you both the cost and the wait of repeating it.
- A staged approach. Some tracts are first drained with a seton (a soft thread that keeps the tract open and the infection settled) and laser-closed at a second visit. That adds a step, and a cost.
- Recurrent disease. A fistula that has come back after earlier surgery is scarred and harder to treat than a first-time one.
- Anaesthesia and facility. Local anaesthesia with sedation or a day-surgery theatre are priced differently, and each facility sets its own fees.
- Follow-up. Check whether review visits and dressings after the procedure are in the quote or charged separately.
What FiLaC is, and why it can change the total cost
FiLaC (fistula-tract laser closure) passes a thin laser fibre along the tract and seals it from the inside, then closes the internal opening. Because it avoids cutting through the sphincter muscle, it is designed to protect continence, and it is usually done as a day case. For the right fistula that means a short procedure, a small wound and an early return to normal activity, which affects the real cost of the episode: fewer days off work, fewer dressing visits and no hospital stay. It is not right for every fistula. A complex or high tract may need a different technique or a staged plan, and that is decided at examination, not before.
Compare the whole cost, not just the procedure
When you compare two quotes, ask what each one includes. A lower-priced operation can turn out more expensive once repeat imaging, a longer recovery, dressings and a second procedure are added. A useful quote lists the consultation, any imaging, the procedure itself, anaesthesia, the facility fee and the follow-up visits.
Does insurance cover fistula treatment?
Many insurers in the UAE cover fistula surgery as a medically necessary procedure, but cover depends on your plan, the facility and whether pre-authorisation is obtained. Our guide Is piles, fistula or pilonidal surgery covered by insurance in the UAE? explains how to check, and the cost and insurance page lists the insurers accepted at the facilities where Dr Kerim Erdem Ulucay operates.
How to get an accurate number
The consultation is AED 400 and includes an examination, a clear diagnosis and a written, itemised quotation for the treatment that suits your case. If you would like to see where the range begins before booking, the starting prices for self-pay patients are published on our cost page.
Questions patients ask about fistula treatment cost
Is laser fistula treatment more expensive than surgery? Not necessarily. The procedure itself can cost more or less depending on the case, but laser closure is usually a day case with a small wound, so the total cost, including time off work and dressings, is often comparable or lower.
Will I know the price before the procedure? Yes. You receive an itemised written quotation after the examination, before any treatment is booked.
Do I need an MRI first? For simple fistulas often not; for complex or recurrent ones usually yes. Bring any scan you already have.
