Botox for Anal Fissure in Dubai: How the Injection Works

Medically reviewed by Dr Kerim Erdem Ulucay, Specialist General & Laparoscopic Surgeon (DHA-licensed) Last reviewed: 7 October 2026

Botox for an anal fissure is an injection that relaxes the ring of muscle around the anal canal so a tear can finally heal. Most people do not search for it by that name. They search for a fissure that will not heal, a tear that keeps reopening, or sharp pain with every bowel movement and bright blood on the paper. If that is your search, this page explains where the injection fits.

Why a chronic fissure often will not heal

An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anal canal. Most heal within weeks. Some do not, and the reason is usually the muscle underneath. The internal sphincter goes into spasm after the tear forms. That spasm squeezes the blood vessels in the area, so the tear gets less blood than it needs to repair itself. Each bowel movement then stretches it open again, the pain returns, and the muscle tightens further.

That loop is why a fissure present for more than about six to eight weeks is treated differently from a fresh one. It is also why creams and fibre help some people and fail others. This is general information, and only an examination can show what is going on in your case.

What the Botox injection actually does

The injection places a small dose of botulinum toxin into the sphincter muscle. It temporarily blocks the nerve signal that keeps the muscle clamped. The spasm eases, blood flow to the tear improves, and the fissure gets a window in which to heal. The effect wears off over a few months. Healing is the goal, not permanent relaxation: once the tear has closed and the spasm has passed, the muscle returns to normal strength.

It is usually done as a short day-case procedure with local anaesthetic or light sedation, and most people go home the same day. Pain after the injection is generally mild, though experience varies. No technique can honestly be promised to work for everyone, and results differ between patients.

Botox compared with laser sphincterotomy

Laser sphincterotomy makes a small, controlled release in part of the internal sphincter, which relaxes the muscle for good rather than for a few months. Botox does not cut anything. That is its main appeal and its main limit.

  • Botox suits people who want to avoid any cut to the muscle, who worry about continence, or who are earlier in the course of a fissure.
  • Laser sphincterotomy suits a fissure that has returned after other treatment, or one that is long standing with clear scarring.
  • Other measures, such as prescribed ointments and stool softening, are often tried first and remain part of the plan either way.

Anyone who tells you one technique suits every patient is selling, not advising. The right choice depends on how long the fissure has been present, what the examination shows, and what matters most to you. For the surgical option, see the page on anal fissure laser treatment in Dubai.

Does laser piles treatment help a fissure too?

Not directly. Laser piles treatment targets swollen haemorrhoidal tissue, and a fissure is a tear in the lining, not a cushion of tissue. The two are easily confused because both bleed and both hurt after a bowel movement. Piles (hemorrhoids) and fissures can also occur together. That is one reason an examination matters before any treatment is chosen.

Who it may suit, and who should ask more questions

Botox for anal fissure in Dubai may suit adults with a chronic fissure who want a non-cutting first step. It is worth discussing in detail if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a muscle or nerve condition, or have had previous anal surgery. Bleeding that is heavy, changes in bowel habit, or pain that is not typical of a fissure should be checked properly before assuming a tear is the cause, and sometimes a colonoscopy is part of that.

Cost and cover

Fees depend on the setting, the technique and whether other work is needed, so no honest figure can be given without an examination. Insurance cover varies by policy. The page on cost and insurance explains what to check with your insurer before booking. The same clinic also offers pilonidal sinus laser treatment in Dubai and treatment for fistula and piles, so a single consultation can cover more than one concern.
